Stellazzurra Basketball Academy ends its EYBL U16 men Stage 2 with a winning record. During the three days in Sopot the Division I team led by Lorenzo Gandolfi ended the Polish tournament with 3 wins and 2 losses, amounting to a 4-1 record that they earned during the Russian tournament that took place last November in St. Petersburg, ranking them 4th in both the stage and general standings.

The Stellazzurra team, who was sponsored by Mollificio Bordignon and Orange1 Group throughout their trip in Poland, made its debut last Friday beating the Polish team Hensfort Przesmyl by 63-55. Stellazzurra went on to lose two consecutive games against the Latvian team Valmieras by 50-61, and Birziai of Lithuania by 49-56. The team pulled through on Sunday, with 29 point-win against the Lithuanian Tornado Kaunas, beating it 77-48, and a victory in the fifth and final game against the Russian Dynamo/Kashira Moscow by 56-38.

The success they had in St. Petersburg and Sopot will allow the Stellazzurra Academy to compete in the third and final stage of the regular season (due to take place from 7 to 10 April in Przesmyl, Poland), with high hopes of qualification to the Superfinals in Tallinn, Estonia, at the end of April. The teams that will qualify to compete in the finals of the international competition are: the first six teams from Division I, the first placed team of Division II and the host team. The blackstarry squad is currently qualified due to its fourth place with 14 points (7 wins and 3 losses), +2 from the 7th ranked.

In Sopot, Stellazzurra's players were recognized for their outstanding achievements. 2001-born guard Djordje Pazin (in the pic) was awarded in the All-Tournament First Team due to his average of 12.0 points in 19.5 minutes, which made him Stellazzurra’s top scorer of the tournament. Saverio Bartoli, was awarded MVP of the team after Pazin, scoring 7.3 points in 16.3 minutes. Paul Eboua grabbed the most rebounds (6.0 rebounds per game) and Giovanni Ianelli made the most assists (2.8) for the team.
