The U15 Stellazzurra Basketball Academy men team almost reached the final in the Novipiù Cup. The 5th edition of this tournament took place from Wednesday 23 to Saturday 26 March in Piedmont, between Casale Monferrato, Moncalieri and Biella.

The "stellini" entered the tournament as defending champions for two years running, in the years 2014 and 2015. The team led by Claudio Carducci began the group stage of PalaEinaudi in Moncalieri, beating the host team Novipiu Campus Team (85-73) and the next day winning against Fortitudo Bologna (82-73), which allowed them to proceed further in the tournament. In the Final Round in Casale Monferrato the Stellazzurra team beat Reyer Venice (63-53) and Virtus Bologna (85-75), during this match the tournament witnessed a Stellazzurra rising star, Djordje Pazin, for his offensive talent scoring a record of 47 points.

On the decisive day to qualify for the finals, with 17 consecutive wins in the tournament, Stellazzurra did not manage to overcome Pall. Reggiana (in the pic, Lorenzo Donadio in a drive vs Pall. Reggiana) losing the game 74-65, therefore, losing their spot in the final scheduled for that afternoon. Pall. Reggiana went on to beat Eurobasket Rome (71-70) in the final by 1 point, succeeding Stellazzurra in the most important U15M tournament in Italy after the National Finals.

Stellazzurra played their last game of the tournament for 3rd-4th place against Olimpia Milan. The second quarter ended 39-38 for Stellazzurra, however, victory slipped away as the game ended 58-77, which did not allow them to achieve the last place remaining on the podium.

From the Novipiu Cup 2016 the Stellazzurra Basketball Academy was able to take home an important recognition, the award for the Best Scorer won by Pazin (in the pic, he receives the award from Brett Blizzard, italian-american guard of Novipiù Casale Monferrato, Serie A2): the 2001-born Serbian guard finished the tournament with an average of 30.4 points, 3 games out of 6 scoring over 30 points, as already mentioned his 47 points against Virtus Bologna. Lorenzo Donadio should also be mentioned with an average of 17.8 points per game.
