Novipiù Europe Cup, U16M Stellazzurra Academy finished in 2nd place: Real Madrid wins the final

Stellazzurra Basketball Academy finished on the second step of the podium the 1st Novipiù Europe Cup, U16 men international tournament played last weekend at PalaEinaudi in Moncalieri, Italy. To prevent the triumph of Stellazzurra's team in the Final on Sunday afternoon was the Real Madrid, which won the trophy by beating the “stellini” coached by Lorenzo Gandolfi to 70-43, the reissue of the other U16M Final fifteen days prior to the Szent Istvan Cup in Szekesfeverhar in Hungary, where they were always imposed the Spaniards to 80-71.

 

In Moncalieri event the starryblack squad had gained the ticket for the Final with an hat-trick of wins in the qualifying round. Hat-trick started with two wins in double digit of the opening day on Friday versus the U15 Lithuanian National Team 76-60 and Fenerbahce Istanbul 81-66, opponents against which Stellazzurra Academy highlighted the scoring qualities of Mattia Palumbo and Luka Samanic, the first one went over 20 points in both matches with 25 and 21, the second one to follow him with 12 and 23. Despite two victories on Day 1, Paul Eboua and his teammates also had to beat Cibona Zagreb in the game on Saturday to advance to the Final, a goal performed going to break the 100 points wall and giving 37-point difference to the Croatians, overwhelmed by 100-63, with Edoardo Ugolini which is inserted with his 16 points between the usual duo Samanic-Palumbo, 15 and 20 points respectively, while Djordje Pazin has added 13.

 

On Sunday Stellazzurra has tried to avenge two weeks before defeat, but the performance was not up to expectations and has encouraged the wide success of the Spanish team coached by Marc Llopis (in the pic of MadeinPMS Facebook page, the Spanish players with the trophy). Bad approached to the game and cumbersome in the offensive end, Stellazzurra has already accumulated a large gap in the first half, which ended on 15-up by Spaniards (32-17), advantage grew up in the second half to the final +27. Best scorer and rebounder for “stellini” was the 2001-born guard Pazin, who finished with 11 points+5 rebounds against Real, 8 points stopped both Palumbo (2/6 from three) and Samanic, while Eboua had 3 blocks.

 

The 2.07mt-tall Luka Samanic was named All-Tournament First Team, Real Madrid's Mario Nakic was the Tournament MVP.
